I guess you could call it a collection-obsession. I never intended it to grow so quickly, I actually never intended it to start.
Several years ago, when visiting Venice, Italy, I saw many chic, fashionable Italian woman wearing the distressed and handmade looking ‘star’ shoes. I inquired about the price and while preserving my spending money for the glamourous fashion in Florence and Milan I held off. I thought they were far too expensive. I did go by the Golden Goose open shop to see the artisans hand designing the shoes. Soon after, I read an incredible article highlighting the company, the two artisans that started the brand and the concept of the vintage aesthetic and I decided they were like my art collection and adding them to my assemblage was acceptable. Each shoe is handmade, manually processed and constructed by artisans of Golden Goose each called a ‘sneaker maker’. Reminds me a lot of the custom, handmade fragrances of Divine Home Fragrances, each scent brings you back to a place, memory, comfort and familiarity.
I decided I need to have one of each style that Golden Goose makes until I realized that the Francy is just not my vibe. Hi-stars were my first, and then superstar, sabot (my slippers), the old school (my golf shoes), stardan, ballstar, midstars, slides and now in search of the discontinued 2.12 High Top sneaker.
Unicorns – Black leather slides with crystal studs. These are my ultimate dream shoes that I searched high and low for over a year. As with most Golden Goose shoes they are made in limited amounts and of course only a certain few are made in each size. These also are made even more special as they have Swarovski crystals (growing up in Rhode Island this company has been near and dear to my heart forever). They also come in a very special velvet box. And a perfect black shoe goes with everything, right?
SneakerMaker – This is adult sized fun, for everyone. Did you build-a-bear? Imagine this grown up! This experience is beyond! You choose the base golden goose shoe and the ‘sneaker maker’ actually stamps, embosses crystals, paints, customizes and individualizes the shoe to your exact desires. I had my ‘sneaker maker’ add all my favorite names, designs and quotes. I chose a neutral with gold superstar and the amount of laces you can choose from is unbelievable. Bring a friend and reserve a spot. So much fun! Literally one-of-a-kind.
Old Schools – These are my golf shoes. Seriously, the Velcro strap makes them super comfortable and they go from course to club so easily. They even replaced my beloved GFore golf shoes. And when they get a little dirty on the course, no worries.
Ball Star – White Ball Star with fluorescent yellow inserts and bottoms with glittery heel and tab and super sparkly laces. Oh yes! These are brand new this season. Ball Star is Golden Gooses – “journey into American basketball through iconic interpretation” however these remind me nothing of that journey at all, chucks remind me of that. However, these are amazing, look at the sole of that shoe. Spring and summer go-to shoe for me.
